The journey of faith is one of return. At Hebraic Christian College (HCC), this conviction shapes every course and every conversation. HCC invites Christians to rediscover the origins of their faith, anchored in the life and times of Jesus. Led by John D. Garr—a scholar whose life’s work has been devoted to this restoration—the college honors Jesus as the divine cornerstone of the Church and champions the enduring mission of his first disciples, who carried his message from Israel into every corner of the world.

“When Christians reconnect with their Hebraic roots, the Scriptures come alive in ways they haven’t imagined before. It’s not about changing beliefs but enriching our understanding of the biblical texts themselves,” says John D. Garr, Ph.D., president.

This vision lies at the heart of the college’s mission of creating a Hebraic model for Christian education that is accessible to anyone, anywhere. Through an online platform designed for flexible, self-paced learning, HCC ensures students across the world can engage meaningfully with their faith, drawing from the richness of its courses.

The Digital Academy

HCC’s learning management system (LMS) brings a new energy to seminary education, blending the innovation of a Silicon Valley startup with the timeless pursuit of theological understanding.

“When we realized that no existing system could support our expansive educational vision, we contracted with CrossLogic Corporation in Asheville, NC to engineer the solution that we imagined,” says Dr. Garr.

That collaboration laid the foundation for what would later become DigitalChalk, a learning platform widely adopted across educational institutions today.

Each HCC course includes 45 video lectures, which are the core of a three-credit-hour experience following the Carnegie Standard. Rich visuals, multimedia integration and clickable outlines allow students to jump straight to the moments they want to revisit. A built-in notepad makes capturing insights easy and returning to them later, creating a seamless, student-centered learning environment.

Students can begin any course at any time and have up to a year to complete it, allowing both accelerated learners and methodical students to progress at their own ideal pace. An asynchronous format fosters deeper, more reflective engagement than typical classroom discussions, while still providing access to facilitators for answers to any perplexing questions.

While the courses are delivered online, HCC remains deeply rooted in its educational philosophy that the responsibility for transferring knowledge lies with the teacher and the educational system, not the student. This belief drives the intentional design of its LMS to provide clear, engaging communication between instructors and students. Through tools like collaborative features and interactive multimedia, HCC recreates the personal dynamic that historically depended on being physically together. Modern communication technology allows HCC students to maintain these powerful interpersonal learning experiences in a flexible, accessible format.

Where Ancient Wisdom Meets Diverse Scholarship

HCC embraces a trans-denominational approach that draws from the richness of diverse Christian traditions. Its faculty, representing denominations such as Orthodox, Catholic, Anglican, Episcopalian, Methodist, Presbyterian, and Baptist brings breadth and depth to this theological vision, fostering an inclusive and intellectually vibrant learning environment. Partnerships with scholars from prestigious Jewish and Israeli institutions and Jewish rabbis further enhance this vision. Jewish scholars contribute to nearly one-fourth of HCC’s growing curriculum, providing students with deep, authentic and unfiltered understanding of Jews, Judaism, and Israel, as well as the Hebrew Scriptures and Jewish tradition.

The college is currently investing $8 million into a transformative Curriculum Development Initiative designed to support this rich academic vision. This initiative will expand the college’s offerings by adding over 100 new courses within the next three years, complementing the growth of the college’s diverse and dynamic educational approach. Many of HCC’s faculty, internationally recognized in their fields, are excited for the opportunity to extend their impact beyond traditional classrooms and leave a legacy in which they will still be teaching long after their lifetimes.

Combining Orthodox Jewish scholarship with diverse Christian perspectives through cutting-edge technology, HCC offers something unique in theological education today, where ancient wisdom and modern learning methods are converging to breathe new life into timeless faith.
